Myth or Fact: Subliminals

Published on 14 September 2025 at 00:28

Do they work? Can they be trusted? How? Well, I've tried them for about a month, so let's talk about it.

I've heard of subliminals for years, I didn't quite believe in them but this August I decided to try them out. I completely forgot about them until I saw a Tiktok about another girl using them. I can be influenced too easily lol.

I knew from my brief knowledge that there were some that were 'dangerous' or had bad messages in them. So, before I listened to any of them, I did my research on which creator had been approved of in the court of public opinion. The Youtuber, High Frequency Guru, came up often and people really preferred their subs. To this day, I won't venture out.  I like their subs and I like knowing that I don't have to worry about the content. Their subs start out with affirmations and then those fade out and it's whatever galaxy or graphic with white noise behind.

Every night for a while, (recently my grandpa passed and so I took a break from subs and manifesting to rest and recoup), I would get in bed and turn on a sub. It plays while I sleep and subconsciously, my brain hears the messages spoken behind the audible white noise. Usually, I lay on my stomach and will read the beginning messages that appear on the screen to myself. Laying on your stomach gets rid of those neck humps and ever since I saw that on Tiktok, I'm paranoid about having one from slouching at school lol. And then reading the messages to myself isn't directly part of getting subliminals to work for you, but I feel like it has boosted my confidence. I mean, we all know that the brain is an incredibly malleable piece of equipment. If you tell yourself a lie enough times, your brain will eventually believe it.

This is part of the guiding principle of how and why subliminals work.

The other part is that once your brain subconsciously hears the messages enough, it will adapt to make you act/believe those affirmations. It's influencing your thoughts and behaviors. You are not supposed to be able to hear what the messages are. Your brain will pick them up, don't worry. Research has found that these can affect decision making and push positive changes by implanting messages into your memory from your subconscious.

Now you might be confused as to why these target the subconscious and why that's important. Well, when you're thinking, every thought goes through the conscious and critical filter. The goal is to have your brain adapt the behavior that it believes and adapts these positive affirmations. The critical and conscious filters make you think about the messages too much or your zone out or you start multitasking on thinking. The white noise distracts the conscious so your subconscious can absorb the messages behind.

Right now, I'm sitting in my bed, and I have one on. Normally when I have my nightly sub on, I try to not be on my phone very much. But lets be real, I'm on my phone. But I limit myself, no tiktok, no video of any kind, and whatever I'm looking at has to supplement the sub. Usually, that means scrolling on Pinterest. I've trained my Pinterest to pop up with positive affirmations and I will stop and read them to myself. Or I like finding mood board pictures to guide me on how I want to live my life. It all has the end goal of improving my life.

Also, people recommend that you drink water while you listen. I'm unsure why, but I follow the direction because no matter what it's a healthy habit.

Some listen to the same sub every time. I don't. I listen to the channel, but not the same sub. Depending on what my goals are for that night I will pick one. I will set my TV timer for a couple hours and then fall asleep. By the time I wake up in the morning, my TV has turned off on its own, which works out great because I know that I will hear my alarm (an irrational fear of mine).  I honestly really like the routine of it. It turns my brain off from school and it's a bit of self-care.

There's no set amount of time that you need to listen to subs in order for them to become effective. It's unique to the person in my opinion.

I really like them. Like I said before, I feel more confident, which we know I've had issues with. Also, the ones talking about love...I have new little details of love in my life. There's a specific person that I feel very strongly about but I have not seen or talked to in years, but recently he's been watching my stories and has gone into our snapchat chat, all stuff he hasn't done since we were close. He had to add me on snapchat again. Out of the blue. I also am currently talking to someone kind of. I had deleted the apps a while ago too and haven't met anyone remotely in the realm of dating for a while.

I realize this is a little hippie dippie but I don't think a lot of people know about subliminals and I'm really glad I've tried them out. I plan on continuing this routine. The confidence boost alone makes this worthwhile. I've always had problems falling asleep too and this routine has kind of taught my body that when a sub is on, its bed time. Like, I'm yawning like crazy right now writing this.

If you decide you want to start this too, I recommend you do a little bit of research. At the end of the day, I'm not scientist. I've relayed my understanding from the research I've done, but you could have a different interpretation. I would recommend High Frequency Guru, their subs many many people trust and have broken down to make sure they're positive.

With love and lightheartedness,

Cici
